How Do You Spell Marriage?

How Do You Spell Marriage?

After 16 years of marriage, we still don’t have it right, But that doesn’t stop us from striving toward better. We are always working for better.

How do you spell marriage? W-O-R-K, and ALOT of it! We also know that it isn’t made up of two people giving 50/50, but more necessary is for both parties to give 100%.

When you get married it is no longer about you, but about the other person. The attitude of – what can I do for my spouse? What can I do to make their life better? It is about learning their likes and their dislikes.

I personally don’t want to be 45 years in and still not have a clue what my partner likes or doesn’t like. So I have chosen to go to school; constantly trying to learn things about mine!

What are things you are doing to improve your relationship?

20/20 Vision

20/20 Vision

Today we are not only entering a New Year, but a new decade! Let that sink in for a moment…..

The thought of a new decade, just brings to light so many things. Like how has this decade been for you? Are there some things you want to change or have been meaning to change?

Maybe that’s not the case for you. Maybe things have been awesome!

For me, there is something about that new decade and change and the necessity of things being different. I am not a spring chicken anymore and something about getting older has a way of changing your perspective.

This is the decade that I look toward the future with a fresh new vision!

What about you? Will you be making this a new year, a new decade, a new you?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

FREE Healthcare For An Entire Year Because of Keto!

FREE Healthcare For An Entire Year Because of Keto!

Yes you read that right and this is not a joke! I actually won for my healthcare premiums paid, for an entire year!

How would you feel if you won your healthcare premiums paid for an entire year? Great, right? Super stoked about it, right?

HA, well I am sure no exception to that rule, because who doesn’t enjoy free money in any form?

Also, in my debt freedom quest, it makes for more money to throw at the debt to pay it off sooner!

I work for DaVita – in acute care, which the hospital inpatient services division. DaVita is a very large company, actually world wide. One of the company mottos is to be the employer of choice and they sure do a great job at it.

There are many awards throughout the company, but this one particular award, called the “WE ARE WELL” award, demonstrates the value of taking charge of your own health.

THE BEST BOSS EVER

My sweet boss actually told me about the award and knowing my journey, she encouraged me to apply for it. I wrote a little about my keto journey and my reasons. Some would call this your “why”.

I have 3 grandbabies (and counting) and for that reason, among a few others – like just for me (you can call it selfish if you want), for my kids (because I intend to live to at least 120yrs), so be it!

So I submit the story and the application and HOLY COW!! I won!!

I challenge you to take charge of your health today! There is no time like the present to just…..

Keep Keto Simple

Keep Keto Simple

Before I begin, I want to make a disclaimer. There may be links here that could potentially generate a profit, but is of NO COST to you. Also, yes I am a Registered Nurse, but I am NOT giving you medical advice and in some would say that I am not an expert on keto. This is my personal story.

Simple appeals to me greatly. Busy, also describes my world well, so fitting in certain things, at times just take way too much work.

That being said, many of you may know about my keto journey, as I call it and I am equally sure there are many that do not. My total weight loss to date is 51lbs, and I only had 64lbs that I wanted to lose.

I weighed 193lbs at the start of the journey and went from a size 16 pants to a size 8 and dropping from an L/XL shirt to a SMALL.

As an Acute Care Nephrology Nurse, I perform hemodialysis treatments for patients in the hospital. So if a dialysis patient gets sick and needs to go to the hospital, they are still able to receive their lifesaving treatment.

FREE HEALTHCARE FOR 2020

I also recently won an award because of my journey and my company is paying my healthcare premiums for 2020! They only choose 50 teammates throughout the entire company, so to be chosen was truly an honor. It also made me even more proud of how far I have come.

That is HUGE and I am SO EXCITED about it. The flip side is, I don’t plan to use it. But wow!

THE BEGINNING

I started following a simple version of the ketogenic diet. At that time, I partially had read the book by Dr Don Colbert, MD – The Keto Zone (which I highly recommend for anyone interested in the ketogenic way of eating).

I started my keto journey on February 13, 2017. We were leaving on our annual family vacation a few short days later, so my knowledge started very slow. Therefore, I utilized the limited information that I had obtained and just began.

I keep saying – START HERE, GO ANYWHERE. Sometimes we just have to pick somewhere and start.

In the beginning, I determined to stay under 20 carbs, read LOTS and LOTS of labels, and cut out ALL sugar.

For a period of time, I even stopped drinking diet soda. For anyone that knows me, knows this was a big deal, but I was serious!

I counted everything. Ordering burgers without buns, ditching the side of fries – and by the way, do y’all know how extremely, hard that is when you’re on vacation with bunch of boys that love to eat? And this started before FIVE GUYS began making burger bowls!

I didn’t count calories or macros. Although the keto diet is LOW CARB, MODERATE PROTEIN, HIGH FAT – nor put much regard to my protein intake in the early days.

My net carb intake was strictly 20 or less and I was much more mindful of my food choices and like I said before. I cut out the sugar.

SUGAR IS OUT OF HERE!

Now when I mention cutting out the sugar. There are four “keto-approved” sweeteners – STEVIA, ERYTHRITOL, XYLITOL, and MONK FRUIT. I already was diet soda drinker, so the sweeteners do not bother me. My husband, Brad, hates them all, lol.

Holy cow though! Have you ever just taken the time to read labels? There is sugar in EVERYTHING! Why is there sugar in dill pickles? Seriously, some things make ZERO sense as to why companies put sugar (or any for that matter) in items!

By the end of the year, I was down to 142lbs. At this juncture I am in a maintenance mode. So I fluctuate a little, but have actually decided in the last few weeks to continue on and get back to it hard core.

TO SUMMARIZE

First, just START. Everything starts with a decision. Next, stay with 20 CARBS OR LESS. Cut out sugar – NO SUGAR. Use only the 4 approved as mentioned before and follow your body cues.

I WILL get to my goal and you can too! If you want/need help please comment! It would be my pleasure to help you along your own journey!

Let’s do this TOGETHER!

The Ownership Factor

The Ownership Factor

Our two granddaughters, Alyssa and Brenlee, have been raised very close thus far. In many ways, like sisters. While they don’t live in the same house, there are alot of days that they spend most of their waking hours together.

I am completely blessed by this and adore watching this little relationship unfold. But even then, there are those moments of setbacks. With the love comes the friction.

We recently had a battle of the “Ownership Factor” (aka: IT’S MINE!). Alyssa was 3 in August and Brenlee won’t be 2 until January. So there are 17 months between them.

Alyssa had a necklace that Brenlee decided she wanted. So she took it out of Alyssa’s hand. Brenlee had a bit of a cold, so this played a part in her overall behavior.

A teaching moment in kindness, became required. It was time to step in to train in the etiquette of sharing. It truly became a battle of the wills. I also recommend Dr James Dobson’s books – Dare To Discipline and The Strong Willed Child

BUT IT’S MINE!

I had Brenlee give me the necklace and instructed her that she had to give it back to Alyssa and that it wasn’t kind to take things from others. She then, took the necklace from my hand and exclaimed, “MY NECKLACE!”

I repeated to her, “No ma’am, it isn’t your necklace and this isn’t the kind way to behave.” We managed to get through the incident but still with an intense toddler. I am also aware that it won’t be the last.

When conflicts arise, no matter in what area in my life, I always try to evaluate to be sure it was handled properly and to learn from it. Was there something that could have been done better? Or maybe even not something to be done better and all was well.

NOT TODAY!

In this instance, my mind wandered to the spiritual. If only we could have the same kind of tenacity. that Brenlee attempted to have, when it comes to combat with the devil. We could look in the face of our circumstances and say – NOT TODAY! devil! You’re NOT taking my stuff! NO WAY, you’re NOT messing with my health! You’re NOT stealing from me! IT IS MINE!!

We have to be BOLD and COURAGEOUS! Let’s put on the whole armor of God as Ephesians 6 tells us!

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in HIS mighty power.

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.

For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers..

EPHESIANS 6:10-18

STAND YOUR GROUND!

I put “stand your ground” in bold, because this really is the essence of the Ownership Factor. So often we just sit by and allow things to happen, rather than taking our authority as Believers.

IT IS TIME! You have the jurisdiction as a child of the MOST HIGH God! Cement your feet and STAND YOUR GROUND!

Take ownership of all that is yours, in Jesus name!

YouTube Video Equipment On A Budget

YouTube Video Equipment On A Budget

I’m excited about the videos that Brad and I have been working on. I told him that I didn’t care if no one enjoyed the videos but me. I have been, and will continue to, appreciate them!

There is no real list of essentials for video equipment, but I can tell you what we have used. I can also say that you can create videos on a small budget, whether it be for fun, or if you have hopes for it to explode.

THE EQUIPMENT

We decided to vlog our family vacation this year, we used an old iphone 6s, that is no longer connected cellularly, as well as a couple of our own current iphones. We also have a Canon EOS 77D DSLR, a DJI Mavic Air drone , and a Gimbal Stabilizer for iPhone.

Just a side note, I am going to say that I absolutely HATE the Gimbal. It seems like it goes haywire and is squirrely. Flipping around like a hamster in the wheel. Maybe it is because I haven’t used it a lot.

But for the record, probably greater than 90% of our entire family video was shot with the iphone 6s.

Then, when we took the Jeep to New Mexico, we filmed everyday to have travel video content. A couple of our friends came along and had a GoPro Hero 7. We were VERY impressed with how stable the footage was, no matter where we placed it.

I had bought a phone kit dash mount from Amazon to put in the cubby on our dash. The camera mount held the GoPro nicely and the footage was not shaky. We also used a suction cup mount on the outside of the window of the Jeep and the film product was 4K resolution, again very stable.

WHERE DO I BEGIN?

I have said and continue to say – start here, go anywhere. Figure out where you are in your journey, and what you want the end result to be. Steven Covey wrote a book called – “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People“. The second thing he talks about is to begin with the end in mind.

I heard someone recently talking about a friend visiting Will Smith. He had a window wall with sticky notes all over it. The friend asked what all of it meant and why? Will Smith went on to tell him that it was scenes to his next movie.

Bewildered, his friend asked, “how in the world to you know where to place it all or the order?”

Will said, “oh that part’s easy! I start with the final scene and work backwards!”

My daughter, Savannah, is a make up artist AND she is really good! She has made a few videos with nothing more than her iPhone and iMovie. Check her stuff out here.

THE BUDGET

So if you’re looking for video equipment on a dime or if your budget is more non-existent, get that phone out and get going! Then budget some money and little by little add to your collection, build as you go.

Good luck! I hope to see your content out there soon!
