I was scrolling through FaceBook and I came across this post originally posted March 2016, my daughter, Brande. As I read it, I couldn’t help but to see again – the heart of a writer……

Enjoy!

“One of the best and most honest quotes about relationships I have ever read just came from my book Allegiant:
“I fell in love with him. But I don’t just stay with him by default as if there’s no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.”
Love or marriage or family or even friendship isn’t about staying with someone because you feel obligated. Love is about staying with someone because you choose to, even if they hurt you, even if they disappoint you. Because the truth is every person in the world who you let into your life will disappoint you at one point or another, we are all human. We all make mistakes. We all learn from them and try to be better. The point is that, no matter how hard it gets, you keep trying and fighting for the things and people you believe in. You don’t give up because it gets hard or you feel hurt. You dig deeper into the person you are fighting for. Maybe you are just fighting for yourself, to believe in yourself, or to believe in your dreams and goals, or to just encourage yourself that you are worth fighting for. Or maybe you’re fighting for a relationship that seems broken now, hurt or anger or both have come in and created a wall. Or maybe you are fighting for a friend who has lost sight of themselves, or a friend who has hurt you, or a friend who you have hurt. No matter who you fight for, you don’t give up when it gets hard. You don’t ever give up on the people you love. Because that’s what makes us human. That’s what gives us hope in even the darkest of days. That we can always keep holding out our hand in the difficult times, and knowing no matter what we go through we can lean on each other’s strengths, linked together with our loved ones. God made us all human, with strengths and weaknesses that can help one another. We were never meant to go through life alone. We are meant to continue to hold out hope and fight for what our country was founded on. That’s why no matter who may be elected into government, no matter how many scary stories you hear on the news, no matter what the divorce rate may be today, I will always trust in the God that I believe in, the same God this country was founded on. God does have everything in control, I refuse to believe in anything other than that. Because even when they aren’t seen as much, for every story of destruction we hear on the news there is an equally encouraging story of hope. People banding together to believe and support one another. Love is about support, even when it’s hard, even when it disappoints, even when it seems obsolete in this world. Love will always win, it’s written right into our history and our future. Love is hope. Love is power, power of light, power to destroy darkness and overcome disappointment and hurt. God is love.”
